Flyt umpires score the games whilst umpiring, here’s a guide to how netball scoring works and how to keep track using odds and evens. Whether you’re new to umpiring, have been umpiring for a while but still feel a little confused, or learning how to score for the first time, this simple overview will walk you through the basics. You’ll learn how to record each goal, what to do at the end of each third and how to update odds and evens to know who's centre pass it is next.
1. Set up your scoring sheet
E = Even
O = Odd

The team on the left of the fixture is always 'even' so you can mark this team as 'E' and the team on the right as 'O'.
The team on the left will have the first centre pass.
2. Scoring the game

Add your goals in as shown in the image, every time a team scores a goal. Add a goal to the correct team every time they score and cross out the previous number each time and replace with the new total goals for that team. In this example above the Red Team has scored 6 goals and the Blue Team has scored 4.
3. Setting up for the next third This is sometimes where the confusion comes in to play. However, to set up for the next third, the most important thing you need to know is, what happened in the game just before the whistle was blown to know if you need to swap over your 'odds' and 'evens' for the next third. A goal was just scored and the centre pass was not taken = Odd & even will stay the same for the next third so you will keep 'E' & 'O' on the same sides for the next third. A goal was not scored and it was mid-play after a centre pass = Odd & even change over for the next third (as per below) A handy tip to remember this is - IF IN PLAY, CHANGE THE WAY.

Once you have successfully added your 'O' and 'E' correctly, you simply need to add the total scores from both teams together to then know who's centre pass it is next. In this scenario, the total score of 6 & 4 together is 10 which is an even number, therefore the Blue Team will have the next centre pass. This then continues for the remainder of the game
